Vinyl wrap vs PPF: why vinyl is history

For years, wrapping a car meant vinyl: a new colour with zero protection. Modern paint protection film (PPF) delivers the same look with real protection against stone chips and scratches. Here's the honest comparison.

Why is vinyl history?

Vinyl created wrap culture as an affordable way to give a car a new look. But it's a decorative film: thin, helpless against stone chips, prone to fading and risky to remove. The look changes, the car's value doesn't.

Colour PPF changed the game. The same colour change, but up to twice the thickness, a self-healing surface and up to a 10-year warranty. Once you factor in the cost of repainting chipped panels, vinyl no longer has an economic advantage.

When does vinyl still make sense?

Vinyl still makes sense for short campaigns, advertising graphics and projects where the film comes off after a few months. For a long-term colour change and protection on a daily driver, we recommend colour PPF.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a vinyl wrap and PPF?

A wrap usually means changing the colour with vinyl film. PPF is a thicker protective film, and colour PPF gives you both in one: a new colour and real protection.

Does a vinyl wrap protect against stone chips?

Practically not. Vinyl is a ~80–100 µm decorative film. Paint protection film is up to ~200 µm thick, elastic, self-healing and engineered to absorb impacts.

How much does a car wrap cost in Estonia?

A full vinyl colour change typically costs €1,500–3,000. Colour PPF costs more but lasts longer, protects the paint and preserves resale value. Get exact prices with a free quote request.

Does colour PPF exist?

Yes. The STEK DYNO series includes gloss, matte, colour and chrome paint protection films: colour change and protection in one film.
