PPF prices: what the cost is made of and what to ask in a quote

Typical ranges for a passenger car by package are below. They are indicative. Exact and continuously updated ranges from real installer offers are on the wrapping prices page, and by model on the vehicle pages.

The width of the ranges is not an accident. The front of a small hatchback and the front of a large SUV differ in area by nearly a factor of two, and the film class adds another multiplier on top.

The five things that move the price most

1. Car size and body shape. Surface area is the first factor, but complex curves, sharp edges and the number of sensors in the bumper matter too. More parts means more hours.
2. Film class. A premium TPU film with a longer warranty, such as DYNOshield, costs more as material than the affordable FORCESHIELD. Very cheap films on the market are cheap for a reason: the base material, top coat and warranty are weaker.
3. Coverage and wrapped edges. Wrapping edges behind the panel, adding the handle cups and sills, and removing lights and handles for the install all take time. Time is price.
4. Preparation. A used car often needs polishing before film, because scratches left under the film stay there for ten years. That can add 200–600 €.
5. Installer experience and warranty. A certified installer who registers the manufacturer warranty is not the cheapest, but the work does not need redoing after two years.

Questions that make quotes comparable

Two quotes become comparable only when both answer the same questions. Send this list to each installer or run through it on the phone.

• Which film exactly: manufacturer and product name, not just "premium PPF"?
• What is the film made of and how thick is it?
• What is the warranty: how long, what does it cover, and is it registered with the manufacturer in my name?
• Which parts are in the package and which edges are wrapped?
• Does the price include preparation and polishing?
• Are lights, handles and badges removed for the install?
• Is the film plotter cut from a pattern or cut by hand on the car?
• How long does the work take and when can the car be washed for the first time?
• Is the price including VAT?
• What happens if an edge starts lifting: who fixes it and what does it cost?

Warning signs in a quote

A quote without a film name. A price that is half of everyone else. A "lifetime warranty" without written terms. A promise to do full coverage in one day. None of these means bad work automatically, but each one deserves a follow-up question before the car goes into the workshop.

Is film worth the money?

Repainting a bumper or bonnet often costs as much as a front package, and a repainted car sells harder later than one with factory paint. Film keeps the factory paint in place and is a visible extra when you sell. Comprehensive insurance covers collision damage but not the stone chips and wash scratches that build up in the first three years. That is the economic logic of film: it protects against what insurance does not.

On a limited budget a front package is almost always a better decision than a cheap full wrap. The risk zone gets a proper film and warranty, and the rest of the car can be added later.

Example: two quotes for the same car

A mid-size crossover, front package. The first quote is 1350 €, the second 1900 €. In the first the film is unnamed, the edges are trimmed on the panel, the lights stay on and the warranty is "5 years from the installer". In the second the film is DYNOshield, the edges are wrapped, the headlights and badges come off, preparation with a light polish is included and the manufacturer warranty is registered in the owner's name.

The 550 € gap is not a different price for the same work, it is different work. The first can be a sensible choice for a three year old car the owner plans to sell; the second is the right choice for a new car that will be kept for years. Neither is wrong, but they cannot be compared until the list has been answered.
